Mahdavikia recently talked about the very thing we are seeing now. He basically said that Iran can win against anybody in the world up to the U-17/U-18 level because of our players' raw talent and technique. However, we have no chance beyond the U-17/18 level because Europeans/South Americans mature tactically and have the edge over us. In any case, this is a great start but let's not forget, we have gone past the first round before only to lose in the knockout stages.

Well, that performance against the most successful national youth team federation in recent times was nothing short of spectacular.
This team is what every one of us TM fans, particularly those of us accustomed to many years of ruing missed opportunity, wasted talent and watching Iran with unnecessary anxiety knew we were capable of, given the right coaching and development. A team of talented, technically excellent youngsters, all comfortable on the ball that are coached to press high, and as a team, defend excellently and combine dangerously going forward.
The level of fitness in that heat and humidity to press the ball so intensely was phenomenal. Plus they were coached brilliantly, so often knowing exactly when to drop off and when and where to press the opposition, win the ball early and high and, more often than not, picking the right early pass to cut through the banks of opposition players. What also stood this team out from so many previous Iranian teams is that they have the physical strength to back up their technical ability. So often they won physical duels for 50/50 balls that they were second favourites to get to and refused to get knocked off the ball when executing a piece of skill or running with the ball.
I didn’t see the first game where a lot of people on this forum were complaining about them not playing as a team. I thought from this performance, for a team so young, the combination play and passing was actually pretty good.
Finally in terms of the individuals, what I liked was that there was no one obvious stand out star or danger man. They were all excellent, and although obviously still raw, I saw promising aspects in every single player. The midfielders, all dangerous on the ball and working hard off it, complimented each other excellently. Defence was composed and calm, good on the ball and the striker worked exceptionally hard to press and yet still had the stamina to execute hold up play and create danger on the ball. In short, superb all round.
When Queiroz became coach I was concerned his mission as head coach was too short term. What he did in rebuilding Portuguese football and creating the golden generation was what I always felt we lacked (and mentioned on several occasions on this forum) so when he was appointed I was surprised and cautiously optimistic (cautious given the IFF history of short termism and lack of organsation). I hope what we're seeing now with this team is him helping implement a blueprint for our football (including helping coaches like Chamanian) to ensure success for years to come.
Apologies for the essay, but I'm excited by the potential of this team.

- Iran reach Round of 16 with four-goal victory over Germany
- Younes Delfi scored a first-half brace for Team Melli
- Iran face Costa Rica in Goa, while Germany take on Guinea in Kochi in final group games
The Group C match-up belonged to Team Melli, who dominated a German side that looked out of sorts during the opening 45 minutes. Younes Delfi opened the scoring for Iran on six minutes before striking the crossbar with an audacious free-kick effort on 15 minutes.
If it was not for Germany goalkeeper Luca Plogmann making several important saves, Iran may have been out of sight before half-time at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, as Delfi and Allayahr Sayyad caused the European side numerous problems.
The Iranians would not be denied a second goal, and it was Delfi that converted a free-kick in the Germany six-yard box for a deserved two-goal lead on 42 minutes.
Any hopes that Germany had of a comeback were ended four minutes after the break, as Sayyad’s diving header to Delfi’s excellent cross put the Asian outfit three goals to the good. Substitute Vahid Namdari then finished off a fine counter-at

The team and the coach know the best what to against Costa Rica. They should use new players so that everyone has WC experience. Rest players with a yellow card and do not get more cards. Enjoy the Costa Rica game and get ready for knockout stage.
Amazing game against Germany.چو ایران نباشد تن من مباد
