Man Im SICK OF YOU PEOPLE TRYIN TO TAKE AWAY CREDIT FROM ITALY FOR WHAT THEY DID.

Baba no ones trying to take away credit for Italy's championship, as the issue is not about Italy's overall performance, but only about this incident between Zidane and that animal!

Wheter Italy deserved this title the most is a whole other issue.


But now we're at it: I was/am an Italy fan (more than I'm a France fan), but if we're honest and look at it with an unbiased eye, wel'll see that France knocked out better opponenst from the 1/8 finals up to the final:

Franc: Spain, Brazil, Portugal.

Italy: Australia, Ukraine and Germany.

I think Materazzi should and probably will be banned from football for a while. The whole point of the World Cup was Fifa Fair Play and to me this was the lowest act of the whole cup. I hope an example is made of this guy and he is banned from football for 12-18 months. If drug users can be banned so should unsportsmen like players.

Great link..Thats exactly how Italy played the whole tournament...If it was not for diving and getting cheap penalities (like acting to get a penalty) like in the end of the Australia game, Italy would not be where they are now..Italy advanced through with pure luck...I guess all the acting they practiced did finally pay off..
I got news for Italy fans...Even though your team won the world cup, majority of the soccer fans still dont and wont have much respect for the team...France deserved to win the final game, but unfortunately it didnt happen..They played much better.....

well, to be honest

i didn't want italy to win so i could shove it in everyone's faces who is not a fan of italy. obviously there are many many many people who don't like the way Italy plays, and that's completely understandable to a die-hard Italian fan like myself because i watch the serie A every week ,and follow Italian football.

is Italian football more rugged than others? YES
is Italian football difficult? YES
is Italian football a fan of employing off-the-ball tactics to win games? Once in a while - YES
is Italian football DEFENSIVE? NO
is Italian football worthy of winning the WC? ABSOLUTELY.

to my fellow Italian fans, please don't bring yourselves down by constantly stating the fact that we won and that you hope people burn and so on and so on. there is no need for that. just take enjoyment out of the fact that we won. who cares what the others say?

One other thing....

I think a lot of people here are blinded by their love for Italy.

Italy did NOT have a good game by ANY standard against Australia and the penalty COULD have been called or it COULD NOT have been called. The ref decided to call it, and that's life. it's neither lucky nor deserved.

Against Ukraine, Italy enjoyed near-total domination, no doubt about it.

Against Germany, Italy was much better. Even the Italy-haters must agree to that and Italy scored 2 beautiful goals.

Against France, Italy had a great first half, but the 2nd half and extra-time WAS COMPLETELY DOMINATED by the French. Please, let's admit this one fact. Italy could barely hold possession for more than 30 seconds, which probably shows how tired they were from the last match. Zidane's headbutt was a fortunate event for Italy b/c it made France want to go to penalty kicks as well - exactly what Italy wanted (even though they had strikers on, I was not convinced that they were attacking in extra time).

but in the end, the fact that Italy BEAT the host nation, AND persevered against France shows that they are true champions of the world.
